Employment Opportunities with the Sandia Police Department

Because of the special needs of our people, the Sandia Police Department prefers to hire Native Americans, and especially Pueblo Natives. However, the Department also recognizes the importance of having a diverse work force that is able to deal with all persons who live, visit and work here. Consequently, 50% of SPD’s Officers are Native American and the other 50% represent a mix of Hispanic and Anglo cultures. Because the Department is small, we prefer to hire experienced Police Officers who are already State Certified or who are eligible to be certified by attending the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy’s 3-week Certification by Waiver Course. Sandia Police Officers enjoy a wage that matches or exceeds most other Albuquerque-area police agencies, an assortment of benefits and insurance programs, and a 401k plan.
